* Fred MELIANI (20th–21st centuries) Headaches Black-and-white photograph mounted on Plexiglas Label on the back, signed and titled, edition 1/5, from the “Paris sous Prozac” exhibition in 2006 at the Helenbeck Gallery 100 x 100 cm The Helenbeck Gallery in Paris is exhibiting the work of photographer Fred Meliani from November 1 through December 16, 2006. The artist, who lives between Nice and Paris, developed a project titled “Paris sous Prozac” between January and April 2001. Following an announcement published in the newspaper *Libération* in 2001, the artist photographed hundreds of strangers, asking them to portray a fictional state of mind linked to the hypothetical ingestion of “the happiness pill.” In various locations throughout the capital (Rue Royale, Porte de La Chapelle, Champs de Mars, etc.), the artist acts as a director of a “public-actor” cast that improvises, invents, imagines, and reflects on its own story. In personal and intimate scenes of everyday life that take on a fantastical and strange quality, the originality of the artist’s approach lies in inserting these “unusual” behaviors into urban and public spaces, thereby questioning the frenzy and pressure of our societies.
