Arc-en-Ciel and its crew - Lot 155
Arc-en-Ciel and its crew
Set consisting of a 10x14 cm bristol sheet (on view) with the crew's signatures.
Crew composed of Jean Mermoz (pilot - Cdt de bord), Alexandre Collenot (mechanic), Louis Mailloux (navigator), René Couzinet (builder), Jean Manuel (radio) and Pierre Carretier (pilot), to which are attached two black-and-white photos, format 7.5x11.5 cm, slightly sunburned, of the Couzinet Arc-en-Ciel undergoing repairs in Dakar (missing left engine propeller) with a typed list of crew members on the reverse of the frame (excluding journalist: Paul Bringuier).
- On May 15, 1933, almost three years after the first South Atlantic crossing (May 13, 1930), the Couzinet Arc-en-Ciel attempted to cross the Atlantic in the opposite direction, but faced with major technical problems, notably an irreparable leak in the left engine radiator 700 kilometers off the African coast, the crew managed to land in Dakar at nightfall.
